Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and Bridges

A crown, also known as a cap, are used to restore a tooth’s appearance when a patient has a root canal, when a tooth or filling is cracked, or when a filling can’t properly restore the tooth. Crowns can restore the look and overall function of a tooth.

Crowns are made of a high quality porcelain and are widely popular among dentists and their patients for creating beautiful functional teeth.

Once you and Dr. Britton have decided that a crown is the best option for your smile, he will use Itero technology to prepare the crown for the lab. The technology takes a detailed scan of the mouth as opposed to taking traditional impressions that can often leave an unpleasant feeling or taste in the mouth.

After the initial treatment of the tooth, a temporary crown will be placed for a short period of time. Once the lab is ready with the permanent crown, you will come back into the office for a second visit to have it permanently put into place. The crown will be strong and will work just as you other teeth do. A proper crown placed by Dr. Britton will be comfortable and will look and feel natural. Patients often say they have never had a better experience with a crown than they have at Britton Dental.

Bridges

Bridges are an excellent option to replace one or more missing teeth. A crown is placed over the two surrounding teeth with a replacement or multiple replacements for the missing teeth set between the crowned teeth.

Bridges are important for those who desire to improve the look of their smile and for overall oral health. Leaving open gaps in the teeth that have been removed for any reason can cause many complications such as TMJ, shifting of the teeth that can affect bite alignment, and sore inflamed gums from chewing in the open space. Bone begins to deteriorate immediately upon extraction and teeth can begin to shift relatively quickly, so a bridge can be an important tool to keeping your smile healthy and in place.

Once you come into the office, we will give you all possible options and help you decide the best choice for replacing any missing teeth that you may have. Dr. Britton highly recommends utilizing the simple and widely-used technology of a bridge to replace missing teeth. He will give you the best possible smile with a very natural look and feel.

With a bridge, you can bite, chew, and smile as you would with your own original teeth.
